What to do in an emergencyInitial response to any emergency
Do not enter a building while an alarm is sounding, or re-enter an evacuated building until the 'all clear' has been announced by University staff or the attending Emergency Services. Emergency Contact Numbers
Medical EmergenciesGeneral Medical EmergenciesIf a person is seriously injured or ill, call for an ambulance immediately on 999. Be ready to provide the following information: Your name, location, details of the medical emergency, number of people involved If on University premises also ring Estate Patrol (Exeter) (01392 263999) so that they can direct the ambulance upon arrival. Mental Health EmergenciesAlthough confidentiality is important, if you believe that somebody is at risk of harming themselves or others, you can seek further advice. Exeter: The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E) on Barrack Road is the nearest major Accident and Emergency department to the University. Tel. 01392 411 611 Cornwall: The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske, Truro is the nearest major Accident and Emergency department to the University. Tel. 01872 250 000 If you are in any way unsure, don't be afraid to call the Police or an Ambulance. Call 999. I Feel SuicidalThe Samaritans are the only people available, in confidence, at any time. Call 08457 90 90 90. More information about the services offered by the Samaritans is available on the Samaritans website. Other options include Voice, the Student Counselling Service, the BRI, the Student Health Centre and the Guild Advice Unit. Household EmergenciesIf you need to evacuate your accommodation for any reason and are not supplied with an alternative by your landlord, a list of hotels and hostels is available from the Tourist Board. CrimeVictim of attack or assaultIt is important that you report what happened to you to the Police as soon as possible. You need not do this alone; feel free to take a trusted friend or confidant with you (this could include someone from the Students' Guild). This can be reported via the emergency telephone number, 999, or you can visit a police station. A list of local stations with opening hours and addresses is available from the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Their non-emergency telephone number, for all stations, is 08452 777 444. Hate CrimeIf you think this may have been a hate crime, then you can report this online. |
